Today I have been writing about hellebores for a magazine article. The most interesting fact, and one I am sure you will appreciate, is that if you stand on the powdered root it will render you invisible. Honest, I read it!
This wonderful stand of hellebores is on my friend Pat the Field’s land where she grows a wide range of amazing cut flowers. Don’t forget to support our local producers 🙂
I love Hellebores and that shot brings a big smile to my face!
Sorry I haven’t been posting much but I find it hard to think about gardening at this time of year.
I have 2 pieces of news though, one bad and one good; I am being made redundant this Friday, but this morning I found out that I have been offered a new job, which I accepted!
Take care
Adam

Aha a stand of hellebores….How do you get them to stand ? Mine are lovely but they crawl along the ground so I almost have to get on hands and knees to see the flowers.Though I expect you would say that was good excercise.

You could always attach a mirror to a long stick ……. just a thought 🙂

My hellebores are still sound asleep, but down in Cornwall they are putting up nice big shoots. Where will I be able to read your learned article?

Devon Life, not sure it is learned though! Not sure you can get it in Kent or London.

I suppose an online edition is out of the question? 😉 you should come down to the Bosvigo hellebore day on Feb 21st. I am going to come down. Would be lovely to see you.

Sounds very tempting, can you send me details? When I get my proof I will try to remember to send you a copy.

Beautiful colors–boreholes are not something I can grow, so thank you for posting that lovely photo.

I like “boreholes” and am guessing it is an wonderful autocorrect! Glad you liked the photo 🙂

Boreholes? What type of Hellebores are those?
I guess Harry Potter had some of that powder.

Oh dear. I hate it when that happens. I should really be more careful before I hit “post.” I’ll blame it on the cat–he’s always in my way when I’m on the computer. I can’t grow either “boreholes” or “hellebores”–but they are lovely. The hellebores, that is.

In my experience it is always the cat! 🙂

Love these and very excited that they can make you invisible. I can think of lots of uses for that. I have less dramatic white ones but they bring me great joy at this time of year.

I love them all, such a special plant. I will be looking for volunteers to test their invisibility properties ……..
