We are all struggling a little at the moment. It was another sodden day at the Farm, quite miserable really. We soldiered on, clearing and mulching, playing horticultural chicken, the first to cry defeat would be ridiculed. Just as I had waved my white flag and was ready to go home I spotted this dainty rose bud. Quaking in the wind, battered by the rain, the likelihood of it reaching it full blushing potential very slim. Nevertheless there it sat, full of optimism and resolve, pretty in its peril. This could have been a lesson to me, but no, I still went home.
What treat when life is a bit of a struggle. And so well spotted!

A bit of a fuzzy photo, but I had to take off my disgustingly muddy gloves, wipe my hands on my waterproof trousers, hatch my camera from beneath layers and take a chance!

If we were all to get together, meld our minds and use the combined surely indomitable force.. could we call a halt to the rain do you think?

You must be very optimistic just to leave the house some days. Mushroom compost arrived – no danger of the soil being too dry to spread it, hope my roses will appreciate their mulch.

If it makes you feel better, I too, gave up early after a day of mulching and getting soaked right through. The coffee and a half hours nap (when I got home of course) were lovely.

Pretty in its peril–winter words to live by! As usual, it’s the same here: very soggy.
