This is the time of year for forgiveness. A season to clutch to your bosom those that have offended you over the previous year, or even years. So, with that in mind, and much as it goes against my normal anti-cotoneaster stance, here is a photo for your delectation. Seasonably scarlet berries, stretching far into the horizon, will be enjoyed by gourmet wildlife and discerning humans alike.
There, that is it, never expect me to praise that darned shrub again.

It is only C. horizontalis that I have a problem with, and only because of their corporate planning misdemeanours! I agree, there are many nice ones.

Oh dear I like them and buddleias. The more common & robust the better. Having said that we don’t sell them. Bees love them in the spring.

Very true, they have lots of noble qualities, beauty just isn’t one of them (in my opinion with my tongue firmly in my cheek).

if they are anything like the blue-berried variety I spent the last three seasons getting rid of, they are horrible, thorny, human-attacking beasts.

These do not have thorns, which is one of their only attributes!

We used to have one of these in the front garden and it was covered with bees in the summer – worth it for that surely? quite apart from the berries

I spent two weeks off and on digging out Cotoneaster. This was over a decade ago, but I still have flashbacks whenever I see a well-established plant.
