I have had an official compliant from head office* that I don’t always name the plants on my posts. This is Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla “Thundercloud”. If you prefer you could call it the black elder Thundercloud, which is much more manageable. I will be testing you later.

Thank you and your mum very much for that.My neighbour has a beautiful specimen and I wondered what it was……now I ‘m wondering whether I can beg a cutting as him indoors is very good at them.

This is a cutting from the one at Cliffe and is doing very well. Good for cuttings, get Mr B on the job!

That is beautiful. Has gone on my ‘want’ list for when I have a garden.

It is always good to know the name of the plants 😉 Plus, the MUM is always right, I hope you knew that :))

Lovely, it would be in my garden if I had one. My mum was a passionate gardener and would have been just the same. xx

One of these days, I’m going to make a serious study of propagation by cuttings. I’ve never had much success at this. I think I’m not keeping things clean enough, maybe.

Some things are definitely harder than others. Start easy and move on up!

My Yorkshire friend Neil propagated both Sambucus ‘Black Beauty’ and S. ‘Black Lace’ from cuttings and they are both thriving and have lovely dark cut leaves.
