Common

In the last few weeks I have had cause to warm to the common montbretia.

Today at Westwell Hall, in glorious combination with the dark leaved elder, it looked spectacular.

There is a lot to be said for being a little bit common.

  1. I love it! Colour when you need it! Easy to pull up when it gets out of hand. I struggle to grow the more unusual types, but have just found a place that my ‘Emily McKenzie’ likes, in a partially shady spot under a Camellia! No accounting for taste.

  2. If you want some I have a garden full. As much as you can carry away (plus all the extras I stuff in your boot while you’re not looking). It does well down here..

  3. You know, when I was a kid, and didn’t know what they were, I dug a bunch of montbretia bulbs and planted them in the garden! I have not been able to get rid of them since!
