The inevitable happened and I have succumbed to the evil Covid. A day or two of feeling rotten and now just boredom and positive tests. In the scheme of things, in the scheme of this misguided world, it is inconsequential. Pop over to Himself to find out what the other SoSers are up to. Let’s get on.

First we have Begonia ‘Claret Jug’ which is neither claret or jug-like. To be fair to this lovely specimen, the underside of the leaves are a deep deep red but I forgot to take a shot for you. Perhaps next week.

I tried to take a photo to illustrate just how tall the Jack and the Beanstalk tithonia is. With just one flower at the very top, it is most peculiar, although others are threatening at the auxiliaries. I asked OH how tall he thought it was after “is that thing in the corner actually going to do anything useful?”. He guessed 10ft.

Rudbeckia ‘Irish Eyes’ is a favourite of mine. It is one of those “short lived perennial, often grown as annual” kinda guy. Easy from seed though, I must remember to save some.

We went on holiday. Our backs were turned. The molluscs tucked in. Farewell pak choi.

I grew this Canna indica from seed earlier in the year. I didn’t expect a flower just yet. Happy days.

Finally, Rosa ‘Peace’ and don’t we need her at the moment. My heart weeps for those suffering from the horrors of war, this and every week. To paraphrase the late, great Edwin Starr, “Peace, what is it good for? Absolutely everything.”
That is all, you have your six. Stay safe.
I grew up with ‘Peace’ but have never grown it myself. Same happened to my Pak choi, they send seed on magazines which must be sponsored by slug killer manufacturers! I shall show the rest on my seed in a tray and use as micro greens!

That is a good plan, I might try it in the greenhouse.

Good that you have a telephoto lens on your camera. Watch out for the tree preservation order coming in the post 😊. Meanwhile, perhaps you could include a pic of the face of that flower in your next six? Easy if you stand on a ladder and OH gets the camera and stands on your shoulders.
More seriously, R. Peace seems to be putting in a lot more effort this year than has been normal hitherto. Mine have performed better both in flowering period and size/form/number of blooms, as yours seems to be doing. There’s a message there, methinks.

Poor you, getting Covid, hope you will soon be 100% once more. Love your begonia, with a bit of imagination, the upside down flowers do look a little like a claret jug! We could all do with having a Peace rose at the moment, so many people with so many problems.

Poor Gill… Covid has hit…. I wish you a good recovery. In the meantime, I’m seeing some very beautiful photos, especially that of this gorgeous Begonia ‘Claret Jug’. And bravo for canna indica. I had one in the past but it’s no longer there.

Thanks Fred. I am hoping the young canna will last the winter. I will keep it in the greenhouse and keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you. I know, I was looking forward to it. Next year, I think it might be a little late to sow some more.

I hope you’re feeling much better soon. I love your title photo of the border – it looks great. I agree about the name of the Begonia – Claret Jug doesn’t seem right or do it justice somehow. Vert pretty.

Thank you and thank you. Glad you agree, perhaps we should rename it?

Ugh, we had covid, caught when hubs was in hospital. Hope it is short lived. Mine lasted about 4 days. I am shocked that I love that Canna. The Tithtonia looks like Bolivian sunflowers here. Feel better, glad you got outside.

Goodness, I am sorry to read about the Covid. I do not hear much more about it than the flu anymore.

Oh dear, glad you got better fast and hope you’re back to normal now! What a lovely set of flowers you still have out! I haven’t seen a ‘Peace’ rose in ages, though we had a giant bush back at my parents’ old house. I’d love to have one here, come to think of it. Very impressed that you grew a canna from seed — I’m still trying to figure out how to keep them alive in northern climates even with a tuber.

One person’s hope can make a difference for we all have God within. ❤ Love your Peace rose, I have planted a climbing Peace this year on my climbing posts and she is really putting on lots of new growth!
