Six on Saturday – Another Story

I don’t want you to think that I am a fairweather blogger. I did attempt a Six last week. Here is the first and only sentence of my unpublished post. “I can tell you something for nothing, I’m not going out in that!”. In the end I decided it was best kept to myself.

What a difference a week makes. Today (pretend Saturday, AKA Friday) is a beautiful sunny, balmy day. The relief was such that I decided it was the perfect day to empty the tardis (compost bin) that was so full that even after excessive jamming downs it would no longer take any entrants. It was long overdue and I paid the price. A simple job made tricky as I had side stepped the task for too long. Still, now it is done, we have a lot of new compost and I can actually add more to the pile without the use of an industrial press. Of course, I got covered with the stuff and it seemed to fly near and far. Luckily, my OH is very handy with the spade and broom and later, when it had dried off a little, did a proper tidy.

If the excitement of my mucky day is too much for you, then pop over to Jim at Garden Ruminations and I am sure you will find much to soothe the soul. Shall we shake a leg?

Last year I dug out every single piece of Bidens ‘Hannay’s Lemon Drop’. Which, for those who know, is a very sick joke.

The orange dahlia is now yellow, as the red dahlia is now orange. There must be a scientific reason for the colour changes, I would imagine it was temperature, but cannot be certain. Still, it amounts to two for the price of one.

Fuchsia fulgens is having a late season flurry of flowers. I am debating whether it is greenhouse worthy again this year or should I just protect it outside. The moral maze.

Nasturtium still having a go. You can’t keep a good plant down.

Plectranthus ‘Mona’s Lavender’ has grown well this year and given me joy with its violet backed foliage. What I did not expect was the glorious flowers, especially gorgeous in bud. Which you might have seen if I wasn’t such a wimp last week.

The impatiens in Jim’s garden faired well this season. The same cannot be said for Chez Nous. They are re-dressing after their summer parching but this is the first flower of Impatiens arguta ‘Alba’ of the year. This is a no-blame culture, do what you can, it will be appreciated.

There we have it, a sunny but still above freezing, Six on Saturday. May there be many more to come.

  1. I wouldn’t go out in that last week, either! You’ve reminded me that I need to sort out my compost bins, too, I haven’t done much gardening of any sort of late.
A lovely six, I especially like the plectranthus.
