We had the same here, three hydrangeas planted together, all having flowers in various shades of pink, purple and blue. We had to dig them up to clear the bed (bindweed roots by the trug-full) and found they had been planted on a variety of old iron farm tools and about 200 bed springs! The cuttings I took from them are all pale pink but I will re-pot in ericaceous compost and see what happens..

I wonder if there is something interesting under this shrub? Don’t think they will appreciate me digging it up to find out, not just yet anyway!

Actually I think the flower truss looks very interesting that way, kind of reminds me of an old Star Trek episode with Frank Gorshin, LOL
