Black Elder

IMG_6890

I have had an official compliant from head office* that I don’t always name the plants on my posts.  This is Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla “Thundercloud”.  If you prefer you could call it the black elder Thundercloud, which is much more manageable.  I will be testing you later.

  1. Thank you and your mum very much for that.My neighbour has a beautiful specimen and I wondered what it was……now I ‘m wondering whether I can beg a cutting as him indoors is very good at them.

  2. One of these days, I’m going to make a serious study of propagation by cuttings. I’ve never had much success at this. I think I’m not keeping things clean enough, maybe.

  3. My Yorkshire friend Neil propagated both Sambucus ‘Black Beauty’ and S. ‘Black Lace’ from cuttings and they are both thriving and have lovely dark cut leaves.
