It is Fagus sylvatica, common(ish) hedging plant here, but also will grow into a magnificent tree. Hornbeam is similar. LikeLike

Oh, yes! I wouldn’t mind winter so much if we could have some sunny days like today more often! The wet and greyness really does dampen ones spirits. It is amazing how much lighter and energetic you feel when the sun shines. Lovely colours in this photo xx LikeLike Reply

Yes, Fagus grandiflora? isn’t there a European Beech or is it Hornbeam?
