How did that happen? One day I’m griping about the incessant rain and wind, the next I’m moaning about the persistent dry windy days and bitingly cold windy mornings. I don’t care so much about the night, although I suppose I should. My poor little ones are having to hunker down as the temperatures drop, still thirsty after another hot dry windy day. That is it. Moan over. Oh, and I have done another oops and hurt my foot/ankle. I’m choosing to ignore that one. Have I depressed you? I would recommend cheering yourself up by visiting our mentor Jim at Garden Ruminations and see what the jolly folk have been up to. Let’s shake a leg, the left one is working.

First the de-robed flower of Papaver orientale ‘Brilliant’, perhaps the very same one I featured in full garb previously. Repetition, a fine rule of design.

Next Rosa ‘Absolutely Fabulous’. I am pleased to report that she still is.

One of the first jobs I did for Welsh Ann was to divide and replant some iris. Some stragglers came home with me. When I asked what colour they were, she confidently told me “blue”. I feel she was underselling them somewhat.

Onto ixia, just beginning to flower. To avoid going outside to check the label, I flicked through order forms. Apparently, these are Ixia Mixed. Definitely ixia, not so sure about the mixed.

I bought a few special pelargoniums from the soon to be late, but always great, Fibrex Nursery. Unfortunately the head count was rather excessive this winter, all but one popped its clogs. This is one of the replacements, Pelargonium echinatum ‘Album’. I feel it is best not to mention my previous track record, it might well send it into a spin.

Finally Peony ‘Shirley Temple’. I do love a peony and I do love white flowers in a bed of vibrant colours. Win, win!
That is your six, another week under our belts. Have a good one. 🙂
Sorry to hear about your ankle Sis, as always your post is full of pretty flowers. Yes that ‘blue’ iris is quite special. Totally agree with your ideas re ‘repetition’ and the spirit in which it is meant. There are many stages to the beauty of a flower particularly a poppy.

I agree, from bud to seedpod, all lovely.

Hey, Shirley Temple owned a home near here in Brookdale! Peonies do not perform well here though.

Ha! Another connection across the ocean. Shame about the peonies though, I do love them.

There are plenty of other flowers that perform well here. We seem to want what we can not have though.

This yellow rose looks to smell fabulous ! I also have ixias here, but I don’t know where they are! It is a shame…

It has a wonderful scent, so I am told as I have little sense of smell. Go find those ixia!

if I don’t see them right now its because they’re not in bloom, so I’ve probably lost them…I will add new

Well, you did tell me once that Welsh Ann was experienced in the art of understatement. And that rose is simply fabulous. Absolutely. And, of course, item 1 in a gardener’s job description is to moan about the weather. Sorry about your injury. Remembering that the right foot operates the brake pedal, I’d better move the car off the drive……. 😎

Love the peony, mine are just coming into flower and the perfume from them is gorgeous! The Iris is a beautiful shade of blue, my favourite colour, so pretty. Hope your ankle is soon better.

Oriental poppies, aren’t they just wonderful. I have the same one. Spectacular blooms then gorgeous seed capsules – with a special name I can’t remember now! Hope your ankle gets better soon, no good for gardening so you can rest up and enjoy the weather!

Don’t fancy the poorly foot\ankle, hope it’s nothing too serious and that you’ll soon be tripping the light fandango.
But I do have Iris envy, that’s a real stunner! Xx

Two or three plants I havent heard of there, I’ll have to go and look them up. Your peony is gorgeous, mine are yet to open although I know I have a Shirley Temple somewhere in the garden I just dont know which one it is until its flowers open.

A lovely six, peonies and irises have to be in the mix in June. Shirley Temple is fabulous. Nobody ever knows iris names as they are often pass-ons. But who needs a name when you look like that?

A beautiful selection, I love them all. It was not a good winter for pelargoniums for many people, you are not alone in that area 😊

Snap with the Ixia, though I think mine are a different kind, though they look similar. I’ve pretty much given up on my pellies. Too much faff overwintering them so I left them under a table this year to take their chances. The scented leaved ones are coming back, slowly, the others not so many.

Absolutely gorgeous Iris, and I say that as something of an Iris connoisseur (I like to think). Love the pelargonium. It’s so sad about Fibrex closing down.

Magnificent iris, not so magnificent poorly ankle – were the gold disco boots to blame?
