Bank holiday weekend, heat wave; these planets rarely align. However, it appears that we are going to be treated to just such an unusual event. It might get messy. Of course this only applies to a small portion of our world, which is all I can accurately report upon. Which in turn is a shortcoming on my part. To get a more rounded view of our fine planet, pop over to our main man, Jim at Garden Ruminations, and much more will be revealed. Shall we get on?

The first rose in our garden to flower is always Rosa ‘Grace’. Such a elegant bloom. I rescued this from The Prof’s garden not long after I started working for him. It was languishing in a pot and I threatened him with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Roses if he didn’t let me rescue it. The rest is history.

We grow a large planter of comfrey to harvest for the devil/angel that is comfrey tea. This is the first time it has flowered and I have been enjoying the fabulous blooms, it seems I am not alone.

Podopyllum versipelle ‘Spotty Dotty’ is generally grown for its cartoon-like mottled leaves. If you take a little peek beneath its skirts, the deepest maroon flowers also will impress. This is perhaps a little risque, maybe I will be censored.

Is it just me, or is Geranium ‘Splish Splash’ very variable? This particular plant is mainly white flowered, with just a few “splashed”. I’ve tried before and the same has happened. Not sure I will bother again.

It is Iris sibirica time, this one is probably ‘Papillon’ but when I looked for the label it had gone the way of all things. You will have to take my educated guess for truth or perhaps half-truth. Who cares? It is lovely.

Meconopsis ‘Lingholm’, alive, flowering, my heart is full.
That is me done, another SoS complete. Have a good week. Do the right thing when you can. It’s not always easy. It is always a battle.
I wasn’t familiar with Podophyllum flowers at all ( 1st time seeing it ) , and I must say they’re quite charming. Thank you for sharing the photo. Geranium Splish Splash is really lovely, but I’ve seen flowers like that before. And speaking of pretty flowers, well done on the Meconopsis!

like Fred I thank you for introducing me to the flowers of spotty dotty. I may well look again at this plant! The prof’s rose was well worth saving. A lovely six.

breathtaking photos! The splish splash is interesting and I do kind of like it but my heart is given over to the Meconopsis ‘Lingholm’…what a beauty!

Yes Grace is a lovely rose, I can vouch for that. The Prof would have been pleased you rescued this lovely rose. Yours is a day or two ahead of mine.

Excellent photos. Thank you. The mayapple (Podophyllum) is a native here and to see the flowers you do have to raise the skirt.

Wow – well done on successfully getting a blue poppy to survive to flowerhood – I’ve never managed it! Rosa ‘Grace’ is a beauty and a lovely link to the Prof.

Oh, you treated us to a Rose bloom right off the bat. Gorgeous! I know this might be unusual, but our weather conditions sound very similar this weekend. We’re launching right into summer on Sunday and Monday, and I’m OK with that. I really liked ‘Splish Splash’ and ‘Lingholm,’ but all your selections are lovely.

Comfrey seems to be very popular. I mean, everyone seems to know about it. I have never grown it, or even seen it that I am aware of. I should learn more about it, and maybe even try it. Is it similar to Pulmonaria?

As beautiful as the rose is the star today has to be the Meconopsis – well done you for getting one to flower. And what are those gorgeous flowers at the top of your post?

All lovely but your blue poppy has me speechless with envy. I have tried, goodness knows I have tried. I have been underwhelmed by splishless and splashless Geranium ‘Splish Splash’ in the past. I don’t think my Spotty Dotty has ever bloomed, it looks very exotic. And I love your rhodohypoxis.

In my humble opinion you saved the best till last, I am jealous of your meconopsis as I have tried several times to grow it and failed each time.

Geranium ‘Splish Splash’ probably isn’t an improvement on either blue or pure white G. pratense. Novelty for novelties sake methinks.

OHhhh, love the Iris! Splish splash is rather uninspiring. I am going to look up comfrey tea?

Oh what a super six, though I’m not convinced about Splish Splash, I like my geraniums single coloured. I will send you a photo of my Papillon which is most definitely Papillon and you can compare them. That rose is gorgeous and rightfully rescued, and as for the Meconopsis you are a star to grow it and get it to flower.

The blue poppy would fill my heart as well, as would that first rose. Enjoy the heat!
