Dusky aquilegia in the dappled shade.
Which was where I was skulking most of the day. Unfortunately this did not involve a hammock, the latest hort-lit blockbuster or even a pint of piña colada. Just spiteful nettles, strings of enchanter’s nightshade and stubborn self-seeded ferns. Well you can’t have everything.
At least you were in the shade!

You should down tools unless you are provided with a hammock. And pina coladas.

Is that Aquilegia still in flower? After all that heat, what a gorgeous colour.

Yes, it is in the woods though so a little cooler. Yes a wonderful colour, and right next to some Geranium phaem, lovely combo!

I’m trying to imagine you hunkered down beneath the shrubbery. The heat is arriving here at last – 29 on Sunday, says the weatherman. I will be touring open gardens as part of the Hardy Plants Group Study weekend, no doubt with water bottle in hand and searching for a bit of shade.
