This week presented both challenges and achievements. I had a short stint in the doldrums which has now been replaced by my usual “annoyingly positive”. The sun shone and the hail hailed. Jumpers were on, jumpers were off. Work has been great. Things are eventually moving in a happy direction, but sadly Welsh Ann had to be cancelled due to more car problems. Cars; my nemesis, or one of them anyway.
Less rambling, more Six on Saturday! Check out Jim to find others sharing their gardens and thoughts.
The unforgotten tulips are still cocking a snook at my pot emptying abilities. No complaints here, it is an added bonus.
Can we better early season acer foliage? Unlikely.
Anemone nemorosa ‘Robinsonia’ is not flowering well this year, but enough to remind me just why I love it.
The hellebores have had a splendid season. Not only floriferous but long lived. We are standing on the precipice and it feels good.
Spuds! The annual totally uncompetitive, just for fun, to the death, spud growing competition has commence Chez Nous. This year the variety is Pink Fir Apple. May the best person win, who is called Gill.
Finally, the most popular and most worthy, Geum ‘Totally Tangerine’. It symbolises a line crossed and I am very happy for the fact.
I’ve checked and recounted and there are six photos and it is Saturday. Job done!
I won’t post the photo of my spuds, because you would be disappointed to be in second place… on the other hand, you are the champion for geum flowers. Here, they are not yet in bud

You win some, you lose some! And I would never try and rival your tomatoes. 😀

That Anemone nemorosa ‘Robinsonia’ is very lovely indeed and having just planted some new Hellebores I find myself want to track that one down now! I hope your car troubles are sorted soon.

This is an unnamed seedling from a group. It is lovely isn’t it. And thanks. Cars are such a pain.

I think this one is an early bloomer, yours will follow soon, I’m sure. 🙂

Pink Fir Apple just about the best for flavour, I love it in a salad. How many tubers have you planted, or do you just have one potato each? Have a good week.

We have a big trug each with several spuds in each. All divided up equally and fairly. OH planted his on end, I planted mine flat. 😁You are right, they are delicious.

My Geum is still in tight bud, yours is so pretty. All the Acer folisge is looking so lovely at the moment, don’t think they like the cold wind in my garden though Your hellebores are lasting a long time, I’ve started cutting mine back already!.

I’m amazed how long the hellebores have lasted, I’m sure they didn’t go on so long last year. You will be admiring you geum when mine is spent, I will probably share ….

Pink Fir Apple potatoes are the best. They make fantastic chips, generally one potato makes one or two chunky chips – oven roasted too

Oh, that is good info, chunky chips it will be. Of course, they have to grow first!

I knew nothing of Hellebore before I moved to Seattle. It is a gorgeous plant. The geum is lovely as well.

It is beautiful this time of year. You’ve lots of wonderful things to make up for it though. 😁

I’m all for sneaking a seventh thing in by way of the header picture, I do it myself regularly, but this week’s is harder to ignore than most, it looks more than a little like some things in my greenhouse except they didn’t even have buds, let alone flowers, when last I looked.

I wondered if anyone would notice. Should have guessed you would. I know, it’s my crazy eccremacarpus which hasn’t turned a hair this winter. I think I sent you seed.

Gorgeous Acer foliage – always so young and fresh in Spring. My hellebores are still flowering, but not for much longer. The one that flowered in September is still going strong. I wonder if that’s a record! 😁 That’s a pretty speckled variety you have there. Enjoy your tatties when they arrive on the table!

Sounds like a record to me! Is it a named variety?

I am sorry to read about your doldrums. I should have posted a picture of Rhody.

That would have helped. I’m ok now, I’ll let you know if I need an emergency photo in the future. 😁

I’ve never heard ‘cocking a snook’ before! I had to google it to find out what it means and had a good chuckle.
